Rod, in his first season of MTB racing, braved the terrible conditions (and had to borrow an undershirt - source confidential- to assist in staying warm) to win his category in what was a tough day of racing for all athletes. By the looks of the weather and conditions a finish was a victory itself, however to pull of a "W" was an outstanding achievement in what looks like could a be a successful season for both riders.
What made this performance even more impressive, was Rod, who also races at Footscray Cycling Club, competed in the club championships the previous day
and was very unlucky not to have 2 wins in 2 days. Unfortunately for Rod, who made a break with 20kms to go was caught with the final 200m in the sprint for the line to finish 5th in the 100k race.Jason, who has had a solid start to his season, is looking to peak for the World Titles later in the year managed a very strong 12th in his category. By the condition of the bikes at the conclusion of the day, both boys will need lots of TLC to get the steads back to working order.
