Not only is this a great result by the non sprinter, but the fact that he broke away very early in the hour long race and managed to lap the entire field bar one makes this victory even more impressive.
Rod then managed to drop the only other rider int he race to take out a very impressive victory. This win follows up some very strong performances and now joins fellow MTR athlete Xavier Coppock in "A" Grade.
In other races that MTR athletes competed in on the weekend was the Geelong 70.3 race.
Stand out performer on the day was Carla Lawson, who finished 5th in her age after riding her way into the race with a 2hr 29min ride. Carla is 3 weeks away from Ironman New Zealand and looks in good form for that race.
Other Athletes to race were 1st timer Travis Atkins who, remarkably in his first 1/2 Ironman smashed out a 4hr 23min before due to a technical issue was DQ after the race. After trying to clarify what the issue was, the Race Referee decided not to overturn the decision even thou there were a lot of gray areas.
Archie Ball also performed outstandingly, knocking off 30min from his previous PB. Since joining MTR-Racing, Archie has gone from strength to strength and soon we will see the veteran of the team break 5 hours in a half ironman. Archie also just missed a top 10 finish coming 11th in has age group.
Marcus Coppock, who completed the ride leg in a team, contributed a solid 2 hr 30min to set up a good result for his team.
In upcoming races, Jason Quigley, steps out onto the race circuit for the first time this year to compete in a 6 hour enduro over the weekend. We look forward to continued success on the 3rd discipline of MTR - Mountain Biking.
